Core Supplements: What Every BODY Needs – Part Six

Minerals

Every living cell on Earth is dependent on minerals to maintain proper function and structure. This includes every cell in the human body. Various body fluids require minerals for proper composition. Blood and bone require minerals for healthy formation. Minerals are required for proper maintenance of nerve function and muscle tone. Minerals act as coenzymes that allow the body to produce energy, grow and heal. Minerals are required for proper utilization of vitamins and nutrients. Minerals are very important factors to take into consideration for optimum health.

Minerals can be broken into two groups. The first are bulk minerals (aka macrominerals) and include calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and phosphorus. The second group is known as trace minerals, or microminerals. Trace minerals include boron, chromium, copper, germanium, iodine, iron, manganese, molybdenum, selenium, silicon, sulfur, vanadium, and zinc. As noted by their names, the body needs larger amounts of macrominerals and smaller amounts of microminerals.

Where do we get our minerals?

We get minerals by consuming plants and herbivorous animals, and also by drinking mineral water. Minerals are naturally occurring in the soil; however, in order to form minerals, soil must contain specific microbes. Commercial farming practices deplete the soils of these good microbes, resulting in mineral-poor soil. Even eating “USDA Organic” does not guarantee high mineral content in the foods labeled as such. This makes mineral supplementation a core supplement that needs to be address each day; however, I do not recommend taking specific minerals you think you may need. As with everything in creation, there must be a balance.

The human body requires balanced ratios of each mineral. This is because the level of each mineral in the body has a direct effect on the level of every other mineral. For example, too much zinc can rob the body of copper and too much calcium has an adverse effect on magnesium stores in the body. This is why taking balanced amounts of minerals daily can insure you do not become depleted in any mineral. Because minerals tend to be stored in bone and muscle tissue, it is possible to develop mineral toxicity if extremely large doses of a specific mineral is consumed. This is rare and generally happens when massive quantities are consumed over long periods of time. This is why finding trusted, well-balanced supplements is so important. Young Living offers a variety of oil-infused, balanced mineral supplements that can be taken daily. Each supplement is specifically formulated with the minerals required to balance each other for optimal absorption and utilization on a cellular level.
