Core Supplements: What Every BODY Needs – Part One

Have you heard the saying, “You are what you eat?”  It would be more accurate to say, you are what you can digest and assimilate on a cellular level, but that doesn’t roll off the tongue as easily and probably makes you think a little more than you want to. Most people in the world today, no matter how healthy their diet, need basic, daily, supplementation of quality, core nutrients to maintain optimum health.   These basic, core supplements include vitamins, enzymes, probiotics, antioxidants, fatty acids, minerals, and super foods.  I will discuss each of these at length over the next two months and provide you with what I recommend and have found over the last five years of research to be the best food-sourced supplements on the market.  I believe they are the best because, first, they are food-sourced, which means they come from real food and your body recognizes them as what you find in natural foods; they also have a unique delivery system that carries the nutrients to our cells and across the cell membranes, increasing the bioavailability of the supplement’s molecules to your cells.  What is this unique delivery system, you ask?  Why, it is therapeutic-grade essential oils!  All of Young Living’s supplements are oil-infused with powerful essential oils that compliment and support each nutrient accordingly.

Vitamins

Vitamins are special compounds found in nature that are required by the body for both structure and function.  The best way to get vitamins is through food because vitamins work synergistically with other nutrients.  The foods most people eat in America are highly processed; because of this, they are lacking in nutrients.  Even “fresh,” organic foods you buy at the super market can be anywhere from ten to twenty days old.  It is usually picked before they are ripe, then allowed to ripen in cold storage before they are placed on store shelves.  This greatly depletes the amount of nutrients and enzymes “fresh” foods have once they make it to your table.  Buying produce from your a local, organic farmer or farmers market will pack the most nutritional punch, but, let’s face it, we still are not getting the amount of nutrients we need every day from our food.

Most vitamins or “one-a-day” vitamins you by at the supermarket or health food store contain synthetic, lab-created vitamin compounds that your body cannot use; if your body cannot use synthetic vitamins, these compounds become toxic and can actually harm your body.  This is why taking a food-based vitamin supplement is so important.  Each vitamin requires several other nutrients for proper assimilation on the cellular level.
